The coin weighs 35 grams, and has the name of former PM Vajpayee in Hindi and English. The years 1924 and 2018 mark the years of his birth and death. The coin has the Lion Capitol of Ashok Pillar on the flipside, with Satyameva Jayate inscribed below.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Dr Mahesh Sharma Minister of State for Culture and Environment, BJP President Amit Shah and Senior leader LK Advani were present during the launch.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Vajpayee's voice had remained the voice of the people for decades. As a speaker, he was unparalleled. He is among the best orators our nation has produced, the Prime Minister added. The Prime Minister also emphasized that a long part of Vajpayee's career was spent in the opposition benches, but he always spoke about national interest. The Prime Minister said that Vajpayee wanted democracy to be supreme. He expressed confidence that Vajpayee will continue to be an inspiration for all.
