Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India is the biggest insurer in India providing services in every nook and corner of the country. The organisation provides various insurance facilities under various schemes such as term insurance plans, pension plans, money back plans, endowment plans, whole life plans, rider plans and term assurance plans. The government has made it mandatory to link Aadhaar card with all LIC policies.

The last date set for linking such schemes with Aadhaar has been extended indefinitely. In case a policy holder fails to do so, he may not receive the policy benefits until and unless he links the service with Aadhaar. As per the latest ruling by the 5 judge bench of the Supreme Court led by the Chief Justice of India, the court has extended the Aadhaar linking deadline and all policy holders will have to get their policies linked with Aadhaar without any hurry.

Why LIC policies should be linked with Aadhaar?

Aadhaar and PAN are being made compulsory for availing a number of financial services. The aim of the government is to streamline the system and authenticate all financial transactions to curb black money. Aadhaar is also being linked with various other facilities such as UAN for EPF, bank accounts, mutual funds, demat accounts, etc. to name a few. You should also link all your insurance policies including those with LIC because,

  • Linking of all insurance policies with Aadhaar has been made compulsory by the insurance regulator, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI)
  • If you do not link all your policies with Aadhaar before the deadline ends, your policy will be deactivated
  • Prevention of Money-laundering (Maintenance of Records) Second Amendment Rules, 2017 states that a person has to link all his financial instruments with Aadhaar and PAN to continue availing all such services

Points to Remember while Linking Aadhaar with the LIC Policy

Before you go for linking your LIC policy with Aadhaar and PAN, you should remember the following points:

  • Keep all details of your PAN, Aadhaar and LIC insurance policies handy
  • You have to mention the mobile number that is registered with UIDAI. If you have not registered your mobile number with Aadhaar, it is best advisable that you get it done first to avail all Aadhaar-based online facilities
  • A successful request submission message is sent to you after placing the request
  • LIC verifies the data with UIDAI. When UIDAI reverts in affirmation, the Aadhaar and PAN is linked with your policies
  • A confirmation message is sent to the mobile number/email id on successful Aadhaar linking

Last Date for Linking Aadhaar with LIC Policy

The last day for linking Aadhaar with all insurance policies was set to 31st December 2017 by IRDAI. But the Central Government extended the date of linking all services and instruments with Aadhaar indefinitely. A further extension was requested from Supreme Court which has been approved by the 5-judges bench led by the CJI Dipak Misra and now people can link their policies with Aadhaar without any hurry.
