Smartphone and electronics manufacturer OnePlus which promotes "Never Settle" could be going against its own tagline.
Perhaps, its got to do with the ambition of becoming India's undisputed flagship smartphone brand that OnePlus has decided to come up with desi strategies.
At the heart of this strategy is an investment for new experience stores and local manufacturing. The size of the investment could be as large as Rs 100 crores. OnePlus has not specifically commented on the size of the investment and the actual headers, however, a report from IANS states that amount.
The agency interviewed Navnit Nakra, Chief Strategy Officer at OnePlus who revealed that OnePlus could arrive at 8,000 stores in the coming quarters. It already has a tie-up or partnership with over 5,000 offline stores across the country.
"At present, we have over 30 OnePlus experience stores across India and will be opening 14 new experience stores in the next six months.
"We'll launch our biggest experience store globally, the OnePlus Nizam Palace in Hyderabad later this year. We are also working towards covering 100 cities through our service centre network in the next year," Nakra informed.
Whats interesting is OnePlus was looking to double the headcount at its R&D team in the coming few months. It employs some 300 staffers at its R&D team.
Elaborating on the make-in-India initiative, Nakra says that the commitment began in Feb'18 and since then, "we have been manufacturing our devices in the country. We have also commenced the manufacturing of the OnePlus TVs and OnePlus Nord in India."
The OnePlus recent smartphones including the OP 8 and Nord too are locally manufactured.
Also, expected is OnePlus to locally manufacture its TV sets. "On our smart TV portfolio, we commenced the manufacturing of the Y series in India and by 2021, all OnePlus TVs will also be manufactured locally including the Q and the U series," he adds.
"OnePlus is consistently exploring opportunities to fuel its growth and meet the needs of more users, by starting to strategically diversify into new product categories and new price points but, at the same time, not compromising on our OnePlus promise," Nakra chips.
