Director Arun Kumar Aravind?s 1 by Two is a rather over-indulgent piece of work with scant regard for the viewers. The filmmaker takes the film ahead in his own way with nagging twists, insipid detailing and some over-the-top performances.
Murali Gopi is doing a double-role, playing a doc named Hari and his twin brother, Ravi. One of the twins is killed and a fiery cop Yusuf Marickar (Fahadh Faasil) is investigating this.
Filmmaker Shyamaprasad tries his acting talents playing a psychiatrist, while Honey Rose is Hari?s girlfriend, Dr. Prema. Sruthi Ramakrishnan is an airhostess named Meghna.
The whole story is a search to find out who among the twins has actually been killed. As no one seems to have a clue, the psychiatrist adds to the confusion with Yusuf?s mental issues as well. If that is not enough there are some much publicized ?bed room sequences? for those who are interested.
Editor turned director Arunkumar Aravind made his debut with Cocktail, a scene-by-scene copy of the Canadian movie The Butterfly on a wheel. His last release, Left Right Left had questionable political leanings and the director often adds philosophy and intricate sequences to make his movies look grand. The same appears here as well.
The script by Jeyamohan loses its steam almost at the early stages itself and from then on, the story meanders along without any definite focus. The usually terrific Fahadh Faasil looks totally clueless and Honey Rose has a single expression throughout the movie.
But it is Murali Gopi who tests your patience, with disgustingly exaggerated acting. The actor tries a bit too hard to look likeable and intense, but here he is biting off more than what he can chew and sadly, falls flat in the end.
1 by Two is a skewed psychological thriller that tests your ?mental balance? and turns out to be a horrible misadventure. Try this one at your own risk!!
