Movie Title

M Mohanan

Star Cast

Anoop Menon, Malavika, Asif Ali, Parvana

The best thing about director M Mohanan's 916 is Anoop Menon, who plays the protagonist in the film. With a storyline that is seriously too simple and melodramatic, he plays his character in a genuine way and in turn makes the whole film interesting to a certain extent.

Dr.Harikrishnan (Anoop Menon) is an idealistic superintendent in a government hospital. He lives with his daughter Meera (Malavika Menon) and the father-daughter shares a great rapport. But that tends to get affected almost instantly with the arrival of a young man Prashanth Kumar (Asif Ali).

If you care to analyze it with more patience, 916 has a plot which could have been much better, if narrated in a more disciplined and modern style. But the film goes for all the stereotypes in the book with melodramatic sequences, irritatingly clich?d dialogues and boring sermons.

For all those lovers of those tearjerkers on TV, this story could be appealing in parts, but for the rest it may appear as a silly tale with overplay of emotions. As a result, the women from rich households are perceived as too ambitious and Internet is shown as nothing but all about porn sites and lewd chatting. The list could be endless!

Now, things may perhaps look pretty different if you are ready to watch it as an old fashioned tale of virtues and delicate relationships. The visuals are fine but the music is good, though the song picturisations are eminently tasteless. Malavika Menon, who plays Anoop's daughter, is just about fine. Asif Ali has been wasted in an inconsequential role. Mukesh, Parvana and Meera Vasudev have limited roles, which barely makes much of an impression.

916 could work for those who are not looking to be mesmerized by some new narrative style. Decide on your preference.

Verdict: Watchable
