Kollywood is experiencing a surge in the making of black comedies, which caters to a niche multiplex audiences. Badri who last remade Thillu Mullu with Shiva, is back with Aadama Jaichomada with two favourite actors of the critics- Karunakaran and Simhaa.

Badri?s suspense laden film is about match-fixing in cricket especially in T:20?s. He has woven his story on recent controversies about the Chennai based betting syndicate, in a humorous manner.

The story is minimal, but it is the treatment that matters. A cricket bookie (Balaji) gets friendly with call taxi driver (Karunakaran). A cop (Simhaa) and his boss the police commissioner (KS Ravikumar) are trying their best to break the betting syndicate on the eve of a big match in Chennai. The bookie is trying to buy a bowler from one of the teams and fix the match. What follows is black humour that will make you laugh.

The film works for its performances of Karunakaran, Balaji and the interactions between the bumbling cops Simhaa, KS Ravikumar and Chetan. There is something quirky about it that makes the film a watchable fun ride. The scenes like Vijayalakshmi, a idli seller and Karuna?s wife telling him she will marry only a guy who can provide an attached bathroom, as she is fed up of waiting in a long queue outside a common toilet in a slum!

Though the film is a breeze at 2 hours, the two unwanted songs hamper the proceedings. And at times there is too much detailing as the story flounders. On the whole, Aadama Jaichomada is like a T:20 match fast and thoroughly enjoyable.

Verdict : Fun Ride
