Abirami Ramanathan, veteran distributor and theater owner has requested Tamil film producers to delay the digital streaming on OTT platforms like Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Hotstar. Most of the Tamil films go live on these platforms within 30-40 days. Suriya's NGK which got released on May 31 is now available on Amazon Prime. Ramanathan says producers should at least given three months gap for digital release.
“After the arrival of Amazon TV Stick, normal television also becomes smart TV so things are affordable now but it will ruin theater business. I’m constructing a prime theater complex now believing in the film industry but if producers continue encouraging digital platforms, theater business will eventually die”, said Abirami Ramanathan.
But producers say that these days maximum life span of any film is just 30-40 days so it’s perfectly alright to allow digital platforms to screen the content after 40 days.
