If you imagined Android Kunjappan version 5.25 was a sci-fi flick, watching the robot on the poster, the focus here is different. This cute movie is a nice mix of emotions and humour.

Bhaskara Poduval (Suraj Venjarammoodu) is a rather stubborn old man, who lives with his son Subramanian (Soubin Shahir) in Payyannur. The dad won’t let his son, who incidentally is a mechanical engineer, to go and work anywhere else.

When Subramanian gets an offer from a Japanese company to work in Russia, he employs a home nurse to take care of his dad and leaves for work. There he meets Hitomi (Kendy Zirdo), who says she is a proud Malayali as her dad is from Kerala. He also learns about the concept of having a robot as a home nurse then.

Now, that was a great news for Subramanian as he carries a robot home to take care of his dad. The villagers add the name ‘Kunjappan’ to the robot. Poduval, who hates the idea of having a robot to take care of him initially, becomes attached to the machine soon after.

With an interesting idea, the writer-director packages an engaging drama with smart scenes, with a good dose of comedy and sentiments.

The movie beautifully shows the father-son relationship, without being preachy. The narrative loses its pace a bit in the second half. The visuals and the music suit the mood quite well.

Soubin Shahir once again delights the viewers with a matured performance. Kendy Zirdo looks beautiful and she makes an impressivedebut. The rest of the cast, especially Saiju Kurup, is good.

But the real show stealer here is Suraj Venjarammoodu, who is in a terrific form. He shines as an old man with mood swings, and is loving and caring too.

Android Kunjappan version 5.25 is a delightful comedy that may not be perfect, but gives enough good moments to the viewer. Go for this one!
