Aranmanai review- A horror comedy to please the masses!

Sundar C

Star Cast

Arya, Raashi, Andrea, Sampath, Vivek, Yogi Babu

Sundar C is back again with his Aranmanai franchise. Just like the previous two parts, the core story is almost the same. There is a haunted palace with a large family and they start experiencing paranormal activities and mysterious deaths.

Zamindar Rajasekhar (Sampath) hates his daughter Jyothi (Raashi Khanna) after the death of his wife Eeswari (Andrea). Jyothi feels the presence of the ghost and she also guesses that it is her mom. But at one point, Jyothi's life is at stake, as the ghost tries to kill her. Why is Jyothi's mom trying to kill her? Is there any mystery behind her death? Why is Jyothi's boyfriend Saravanan (Arya) gets possessed by the ghost? Watch the film to know...

Sundar C follows the tried and tested template of his Aranmanai franchise. This time, he has spent more on the visual effects and large palace sets. He has also borrowed a few elements from the Kanchana series and Chandramukhi here.

Aranmanai 3 is not an unbearable horror-comedy, the film has its moments and it is sure to be enjoyed by the masses but the novelty factor has slowly started diminishing.

Arya, who was billed as the hero of the film comes only in a few scenes. Raashi Khanna is there for the glamour quotient and Andrea have more screen space, and both the actresses have done a good job. Arya's role is more like an extended cameo while Sundar C has turns hero in the second half of the film.

The comedy battalions Vivek, Yogi Babu, Manobala, Nalini, and Mynaa have done their parts well to evoke laughter. C Sathya's songs and score are perfect for the horror-comedy while UK Senthil Kumar's cinematography is not up to the mark that the visuals are not grand although the producers have spent a bomb.

Talking about the engagement factor, the first half moves at a rapid pace with interesting elements but we have seen most of the scenes in the second half in various horror comedies. The climax ends on a high but again, we have seen these sequences in several films in the past.

To conclude, Aranmanai 3 is a functional horror-comedy that can be watched with family in theaters near you but the scenes and characters remain the same!

Verdict: Template Horror comedy
