Avarude Raavukal review: Tedious watch

Shanil Muhammed

Star Cast

Asif Ali, Unni Mukundan, Vinay Fort, Honey Rose

In one of the scenes in director Shanil Muhammed’s Avarude Raavukal, Mukesh’s character trains wannabe actors and emphasizes the importance of a good script while making a film. The question is why the makers of this film never tried to implement some of those tips in their own creation?

Three youngsters start living in a bungalow with a wealthy old man named Scobo (Nedumudi Venu). Aashiq (Asif Ali) wants to make it big in films, Sidharth (Unni Mukundan) wants to do nothing in life and Vijay (Vinay Fort) has a secret that he has been hiding for a while.

Aashiq hopes to make an impact as an actor and becomes an extra artiste after bribing an assistant. But he is thrown out of the set when he can’t match the steps with the rest. Sidharth is a batsman who loses his stardom with one wrong ball. Vijay is facing trouble after he gets into a fight.

The basic story is about how the three get back on track in their respective lives and become really successful.

Fine? Not really. This simple story is stretched and made confusing with experiments that actually makes it all boring. At times you don’t know whether things are to be meant seriously or as a comedy. Some serious situations become unintentionally funny as well.

The performances are fine at best. Asif Ali is earnest, Vinay Fort tries a bit too hard and Unni Mukundan takes it a bit too easy. Honey Rose has nothing much to do.

Avarude Raavukal is overlong and as a result makes you feel tired by the end. There are some efforts to make it all look as a brainy attempt, but with a weak content that plan is far from successful. Watch it at your own risk please!
