In his recent statement, veteran director Bharathiraja who is also the founder of Tamil Film Active Producers Association expressed his disappointment on industry people blaming Suriya for his decision to premiere Soorarai Pottru on Amazon Prime.
"The entire industry is facing a tough time. I'm disappointed that a section blames Suriya for their problems with OTT platforms. Only a few people like Suriya invest back their money in cinema and we should encourage them. We lost theater-going audiences because of high snacks and parking fees. How can a family spend 1000 rupees for a movie? Even if theater reopens soon, good films don't get enough theaters. Even if our producers get a few screens, the theatrical span is limited. I welcome your idea to release Soorarai Pottru only in theaters and not on OTT. But there are so many films waiting for the theatrical release. Will all of you fight for the problems of these producers?", asked Bharathiraja in his statement.
"I welcome Suriya's decision to release Soorarai Pottru on OTT as it's the right way to watch films during this pandemic. To distributors and theater owners, let's all meet and solve our issues amicably", he added.
