Chennai Box-Office – Jan 14 to 17

Monday, 18 January, 2016, 04:32

The clear Pongal (Jan 14 to 17) box-office winner at the Chennai Box-Office is Sivakarthikeyan’s Rajini Murugan. The film grossed an impressive Rs 1.03 Crore thanks to its family content and tax free status. It is being liked by hard core critics and mass audiences making it the number one at CBO.The number two is Bala’s Thaarai Thappattai, which got the big screens and prime shows thanks to Sathyam Cinemas who are distributing it. The film which grossed around Rs 80 lakhs carries mixed reports. It has an A certificate and is very violent and will not be liked by family audiences. In the third place is Vishal’s Pandiraj directed Kathakali which got rave reviews, but smaller screens and competition divided the collections. Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Gethu, a thriller carries mixed reports, but took a good opening and is at number four.In the fifth place is NTR’s Nannuku Prematho, which released a day before Pongal and managed to get that crucial opening. The Pongal box-office results clearly indicate that content is suited for festival and that it will attract family audiences and get maximum collections. And competition due to too many releases is bad for the industry as box-office collections get divided.
