Chennai Box-Office – Jan 22 to 24

Monday, 25 January, 2016, 04:56

Another decent week at the Chennai multiplexes. The footfalls across the screens were encouraging. Hopefully, the Chennai audiences will come back in a big way to boost occupancy in screens. At number five is Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Gethu. In the fourth place is Bala’s Sasikumar adult drama Tharai Thappattai, which is holding on in multiplexes. In the third place is Akshay Kumar’s patriotic rescue operation Airlift. The film has taken a good opening and is sure to do well in the Republic Day weekend. The big surprise is that Vishal’s Pandiraj directed Kathakali is doing better in the second week, due to strong WOM. The film is at number two position. And the number one at the CBO this week is Sivakarthikeyan’s Rajini Murugan, the big Pongal winner. The film in its second week has moved over to multiplex big screens and got prime shows, which boosted the collections.
