C U Soon review: Will haunt you, make you think

Director

Mahesh Narayanan

Star Cast

Fahadh Faasil, Roshan Mathew, Darshana Rajendran

Writer and director Mahesh Narayanan’s C U Soon, which has just premièred on Amazon Prime is an edge of the seat thriller with a genuine and relevant theme.

Mahesh has earlier directed the well appreciated Take Off and was ready with Malik, with Fahadh Faasil in the title role, when the COVID 19 pandemic outbreak happened.

In C U Soon, Jimmy Kurian (Roshan Mathew) is a client executive at a bank in Dubai. He meets Anumol Sebastian (Darshana Rajendran) on a dating app. They hit it off almost instantly and their chats shift to other platforms. The connection grows pretty fast and Jimmy is head over heels in love with Anumol.

As she doesn’t have a number to call, he decides to check her whereabouts before proceeding further. Jimmy seeks the help of his cousin, Kevin Thomas (Fahadh Faasil), a cyber security expert.

Soon things take some unprecedented turns, which leaves Jimmy clueless and Kevin delves deeper to connect the missing links.

Mahesh Narayanan had started this project after the lockdown was announced, as an experiment. This is one of few movies from Malayalam to release directly on OTT, before a theatrical release.

Until now OTT was seen generally by the industry as an option to release low budget movies that may not be good enough to be crowd favourites that will ensure big crowds at the theatres. This one is a trendsetter that way and surprises the viewer with its adept presentation.

With a script that mixes nail biting moments and emotions, this movie is gripping all along.

Darshana Rajendran is excellent as Anumol and conveys the emotions of the character that she portrays amazingly well. Roshan Mathew once again comes up with an impressive performance. But then it is Fahadh Faasil who gets into the shoes of the character so naturally and makes this one an incredible experience for the viewer.

C U Soon is the kind of movie that prompts you to be glued on to the screen without taking your eyes away, even for a moment. And then haunts you and makes you think about it for long. On the downside, the first twenty minutes is slow and confusing and Gopi Sundar's BGM is very average. But on the whole, this one is worth watching.
