Movie Title

Chandi Veeran

Star Cast

Atharvaa, Lal, Anandhi

Director Sarkunam's Chandi Veeran is a typical village based commercial cinema with a message on safeguarding clean waterresources. The story is wafer thin and tries hard to be a message oriented movie.

Though the intention of the director Sargunam to convey a message on water scarcity and nonviolence is laudable, the film is too preachyand loud with an abrupt comedy ending.

As a child, Paari (Atharvaa) lost his father who tried to stop the war between his native and neighbouring village as they fought oversharing a pond water. Years later, Paari is a young man who returns from Singapore but the battle between two villages is still on.

Mean while, Paari is in love with Thamarai (Anandhi), daughter of rich village man (Lal) who also owns the pond and is adamant not to supply water to the nearby village. The rest of the film tells us how Paari amicably settles the clash between two villages and also wins over the adamant Lal with his noble quality.

Chandi Veeran's major strength is Lal who plays the ruthless rich man with sheer perfection. Though Atharvaa earnestly tries to fit the village bumpkin role, the swag attitude looks artificial and he is undoubtedly a miscast for the particular character. Anandhi does herpart well that her homely look helps to portray the village belle role offered.

Technically, the production value is below par while editing seems too abrupt that the film finds it difficult to have a coherent flow, may bethe editor would have chopped too many poorly shot sequences. Music by Arunagiri is good while BGM by Sabesh Murali is too loud.

After Naiyaandi, Chandi Veeran is yet another half baked movie from Sarkunam. Hope he brings back the Vaagai Sooda Vaa and Kalavani magic in his next film.

Verdict: Run of the mill
