The Chandramukhi audio launch on Saturday evening was the biggest ever glitzy show in tinsel town in recent times. The Taj Connemera ball room in Chennai was overflowing with stars, fans, and the biggest ever media contingent. The ball room with 250 seating capacity was packed with over 1000 people as they pushed and jostled to get a better view of the proceedings.

The Chief Guest at the function was Asha Bhonsle and the guest list included the star cast of Chandramukhi like veteran actress Sheela, Jyothika, Nayanatara, Vijayakumar, Kannada actor Avinash. Then there was our ‘Ilayathalapathy’ Vijay, Karthik, Jayam Ravi, Jeeva, Sukanya, Latha Rajnikanth and daughters Aishwarya , Soundarya including the entire technical team of the film. The industry bigwigs were also present at the function.

The programme started around 7 pm with Ramkumar’s welcome address and he introduced the Chandramukhi team. He made it a point to thank each and every technician and praised director P.Vasu to the heavens without whom Chandramukhi would not have been completed in such a record time. But why did he have to emphasis- “The story of Chandramukhi is purely Vasu’s and we have not taken it from any language”. Is he expecting some legal battles over the story of the film?

Asha Bhonsle the chief guest was the next speaker and she charmed the audience with her sing-song style of her bond with the Sivaji Ganesan family. Her Sivaji anecdotes had everybody in splits but she committed a faux-pas when she referred to music director of the film Vidyasagar as Deva! And later she embarrassed Rajnikanth by saying that both of them were Maharastrians and were conversing in Marathi on stage!

Later, veteran music composer M S Vishwanathan was given a special commemorative award on behalf of Sivaji Charities. MSV as he is popularly known truly deserved the award as he was the pioneer in popularizing Tamil film music. Then there was superb speech by Valee who chronicled Tamil film music from the 50’s to the present era. Vaali said that Rajnikanth is the real superstar and also added that all superstars in Tamil like MGR, Sivaji, Rajani, Kamal, and now Vijay, Vikram, Ajit and then young stars like Simbu, Dhanush- all had three Tamil letters in their name.

P.Vasu, the director said that everyone will see a handsome, good looking Rajni and he has danced and done fight scenes amazingly. He also praised the superstar’s simplicity, dedication and professional attitude during the making of the film. He thanked music director Vidyasagar for providing excellent music for Chandramukhias the film has a musical subject. Prabhu thanked the audience, stars and media for all the support and encouragement.

Chandramukhi is being promoted by Tata Indicom and their COO, Madhusudhan Mandya, said that the company was proud in being associated with a film of such grandeur and extravaganza.

And finally when the superstar came to give a speech, the crowd went into frenzy. Rajni said that while he was holidaying in Kerala he came across Sharma’s translation of “Bhagadwad Gita”, the holy book which prompted him to get up from slumber and prove to the world that he is not lying low after the Baba debacle and will prove all his detractors wrong. He promised to make a lengthy speech after Chandramukhi becomes a big hit! He also compared himself to a horse and said: "If I were an elephant, my getting up after the failure of Baba would have been difficult. But like a horse I was able to get up easily." He also thanked Sivaji productions for reposing their faith in him and promised to bounce back at the box-office with Chandramukhi.
