Devi review: A neat feel good horror comedy

Star Cast

Prabhu Deva,Tamannaah, Sonu Sood

When director Vijay gets the right story line and actors, he can do magic with his screenplay. Good news is that the director has made a solid comeback with Devi, which is a feel-good horror comedy.

The only aim in Krishna's (Prabhu Deva) life is to marry a modern girl but to his tough luck,  every girl he meets is engaged to someone and he finally tie the knot with village belle Devi(Tamannaah). When the couple moves to a new flat in Mumbai, an evil spirit named Ruby possess Devi to achieve her unfinished acting dream. Interestingly, Krishna signs an agreement with Ruby that after completing her debut film, she should leave Devi's body!

Though the film begins at a leisure pace, things slowly build up when the story moves to Mumbai. The tiny details revolving around Ruby's character and how it achieves acting dream are pretty interesting. Not just Vijay, Devi is a comeback film for Prabhu Deva as well. The choreographer turned actor/director fits the bill with his impeccable comic timing and his high energy level. He still dances like a dream which is huge strength for the film.

But the film completely belongs to Tamannaah, as she beautifully carries both Ruby the glamourous actress and the village girl Devi with great elan. Sonu Sood fits the bill. Technically, Manush Nandan's cinematography is a big plus. Two songs are peppy and hummable but has a Hindi feel to it.

A major problem with Devi is the Hindi dubbed feel, thanks to few North Indian actors barring that this is a neat feel good horror comedy!
