A new plagiarism charge has started off a debate in Mollywood
Award winning filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan has written a Facebook post where he says, “I am happy if someone copies my film and makes a commercial venture that is successful. Isn’t it a matter of pride that Malayalam independent movies are being copied whereas earlier it were Holywood – Cannes – Berlin movies. But it is not a great thing that it took 3-4 years for this copy. That it took so much time to realise that the movie is worth being copied shows the bad taste of those who did the copy.”
Though Sanal has not mentioned neither his movie or the copied version, the comments suggest that his post is targeting the new release Ishq and his movie is S Durga. However, Sanal has replied to some of the comments where he makes it clear that he is yet to give details about his accusation.
Ishq director Anuraj Manohar has told web portal The Cue that the script of his film was ready six years before and there is no question of plagiarism.
