Drishyam 2 review: Mohanlal, Jeethu Joseph combo does it again!
It is not always that a sequel lives up to the huge expectations of the highly successful original. Drishyam 2 does that in a brilliant way. Go for this one!
Drishyam 2 review: Mohanlal, Jeethu Joseph combo does it again!
Jeethu Joseph
Mohanlal, Meena, Murali Gopy
Director Jeethu Joseph’s 2013 blockbuster Drishyam narrated the thrilling story where a wily villager managed to save his family after getting involved in a crime, unintentionally. The family’s worries have not ended yet, as the sequel Drishyam 2 reveals.
Georgekutty (Mohanlal), who ran a Cable TV network business in a high range town then, now owns a movie theatre. His wife Rani (Meena) feels that he has changed a lot with his constant booze sessions with friends, as Georgekutty is busy planning to produce a movie.
The couple’s daughters, Anju (Ansiba Hassan) and Anu (Esther Anil), are still living under tremendous fear, after the incident which happened six years ago, where a youth named Varun Prabhakar was killed.
Georgekutty is aware that they are under the constant watch of the cops, as IG Thomas Bastin (Murali Gopy) does everything to unveil the mystery behind the murder. He is even more interested in the case as he wants to help his former colleague Geetha Prabhakar (Asha Sarath), who incidentally is Varun’s mother. The local people are also jealous about Georgekutty, as he has succeeded in eluding the police and has made big money in business.
Well, we won’t play spoilsports and reveal further about the storyline. With an engaging script, Jeethu Joseph has presented the sequel in a gripping manner. As in Drishyam, the story gets real pace during the second half and keep the viewer at the edge of their seats with smart twists and surprises. The visuals and the music are really good.
Murali Gopy, who plays a top cop, performs superbly. The rest of the cast, which includes Meena, Sidhique, Asha Sarath, Ansiba and Esther are good.
But then it is the genius of Mohanlal that is in display once again, as the actor gets back into the shoes of the character that he has already played, with amazing perfection.
It’s not always that a sequel lives up to the huge expectations of the highly successful original. Drishyam 2 does that in a brilliant way. Go for this one!
