Drishyam is an all-time big hit in the Malayalam film industry. The movie stars Mohanlal and Meena in lead roles and it won great critical acclaim. The film is remade in Telugu with the same name by actress-turned-director Sri Priya. The Telugu version stars the superhit pair of Venkatesh and Meena. Gargantuan expectations were mounted on it and the film has delivered. Drishyam entertains and does much more!
Ram Babu (Venkatesh) leads a simple life in the village of Rajavaram with wife (Meena) and two daughters who are in their teens. He works as a cable operator and leads a content life with his family.
One eerie incident involving his elder daughter throws the family out of gear and they are in deep trouble. Ram Babu rises to the occasion and saves his family from this situation. The technique used to save his family is one of the reasons why one must watch this film.
For the first time in Telugu cinema do we see such an intense film. Venky has done a mature role and like always he is numero uno when it comes to family-oriented sentimental films. He emotes well as a father. Venky is remarkable in the confrontation scenes with the cops and the film lies on his shoulder entirely.
Meena as Venky?s wife and a mother fits the role like a glove. The teenagers who have performed as daughters of this couple are marvelous. Family sentiments and bonding of these four will surely strike a chord with the audience.
Another actor who needs to be praised in this film is Nadia. 'Superb' is one word that will describe her astounding performance. She enacts the role of a cop and Nadia nails it.
Technically, the film is first-class. Like we said before, the story is something new. A family story laced with mystery is not something that you see often. Music and background score gel well with the film. Editing of the film is good and dialogues are just perfect. It?s screenplay is brilliant. Director Sri Priya has done an excellent job. The subject has been handled well.
There are some negatives in the film. The romantic track between Meena and Venky could have been done away with. The first 25 minutes of the film does not really start well. Just when you are all set to yawn, the film shifts gear. From then on you will be glued to your seat till the climax.
The makers have dutifully followed the Malayalam version. Drishyam would have gone a different route had they changed the film to suit Telugu audiences.
Overall, Drishyam entertains. After a long time we are seeing a film that comes with nail-biting sequences. Venkatesh and Nadia?s performances are first rate. Superior performance, incredible screenplay and exhilarating suspense?Drishyam is a recommended watch.
