Lal Jose?s Ezhu Sundara Rathrikal fits the bill perfectly for a typical Hollywood rom?com. But sadly, this has been made here, in Malayalam to precise, and the hero of the film is a star known as the likeable guy next door!

The issues faced by a man, just seven days before his marriage and all the tensions that follow when his ex?girlfriend also get into this mess is the storyline here. Aby (Dileep) is all set to marry a model named Ann (Parvathy Nambiar). But after certain unprecedented happenings, mainly thanks to his ex?flame Sini (Rima Kallingal) and her husband boxer Tyson Alex (Murali Gopi), tense days are ahead for Aby.

It?s a confusion drama, set in a modern style, though the narration is essentially old school. The comedy situations are painstakingly artificial and when it goes on and on, it loses the steam. Like, the continuous attacks on the censor board and the friends addressing each other as ?Rajavu?, which gets annoying after a point. The director seems to have been eager to settle some scores with the Censors. No problem if he wants to, but the dialogues are not in sync with the situations.

James Albert?s script just packs certain elements and Lal Jose?s effort lacks enough energy to make things gripping. Pradeesh Varma?s visuals are good, but the songs by Prashanth Pillai are loud and at times irritating, to say the least.

In a role that would have been better with a younger and a more vibrant hero, Dileep tries hard and it is his comedy (except when he tries to be super cool) that prompts the viewer to sit there till the end. Rima Kallingal looks more serious than perhaps what was required from the character. Murali Gopi is fine but Parvathy Nambiar makes only a limited impact in her debut attempt.

Ezhu Sundara Rathrikal gives you the feeling that there is a basic storyline here, which could have been fine as a feel good entertainer, if it was made well. In the current form, all that this confusion drama succeeds in is to leave you more confused. Watch it at your own risk please!
