Happy Wedding review-Time pass

Star Cast

Siju Wilson, Sharafudheen, Soubin Shahir

It’s evident from the beginning that director Omar’s Happy Wedding has just one intention, to tickle your funny bone by any means. Every trick in the book is then used to create humour, as a result.

Hari (Siju Wilson) is a civil engineer who works in a construction firm in Kochi. His mother is trying hard to find a match for him. Manu (Sharafudheen) is his cousin, who is fooling around without any real aims in life, with quite a few back papers to be cleared before he can call himself an engineer. The story takes an interesting turn when a stranger, played by Soubin Shahir, joins them.

The whole film is a mix of some flashback scenes set in an engineering college campus where Hari and Manu were studying sometime back, clichéd situations more like those comedy skits and of course, double meaning dialogues in plenty.

The comic situations that happen in the campus and at the boys’ hostel, along with romance and the fun in between and a rather lengthy sequence inside a bus, has been used to good effect.

In all fairness, though this one may not be enjoyable for a discerning viewer, this one is a decent entertainer for those who are there just to laugh. The lack of a good script and direction is there to be seen for sure.

Still, this one needs to be applauded as the makers came up with no big heroes, in an industry where stars are supposed to be the deciding factors.

The saving grace for the film could be the fabulous comic timing of the lead men, ably supported by the rest of the cast. Siju Wilson is impressive and Soubin is good as always, but the one who scores big time with a natural style is Sharafudheen.

Happy Wedding could have been packaged better, but is enjoyable if you are the kind who enjoys watching those comedy shows on TV. If a few chuckles are all what you look forward to at the cinemas, give this one a try.

Verdict: Time-pass
