Upendra, Soundarya, Catherine, Ramesh Bhat
Upendra scores well through his disciplined and authentic performance. He plays all the three roles well, though it would not be difficult to pick the best performance among the three roles.
It is certainly that of the old man, who was a dancer in the younger days, who takes the cake. The technical values are brilliant and the rich production values will raise the level of the quality of the film. A.R.Rahman has composed one original song which is good, while the background music could have been better.
Shiva is a rich industrialist who is confined in a wheel chair. His son Vijay is an irresponsible young man who is always busy with his friends. Vijay is engaged to Soundarya. One day after a heavy drinking session, Vijay crashes into his fiancee`s house and tries to rape Soundarya`s friend.
An enraged Shiva puts him into a mental asylum when the real culprit enters. He is none other than Ajay who hates Shiva for giving up on his mentally unsound mother. What happens later is best watched on screen.
Upendra`s style quotient and dialogue delivery are the high lights of this film. His portrayal of the Bharatha Natyam dancer and an old man pegged to his wheel chair is by far his best performance. Soundarya, debut through this film, but she needs to improve on her acting skills. Catherine was a bad choice to play the mother. Ramesh, Sudha Belawadi and Keerthraj, Siddaraj Kalyankar have performed their roles with ease.
Director Sriram has given his best as the cinematographer while his debut direction deserves to be appreciated. A.R.Rahman`s music is good. Re-recording by Rajesh Ramanath is good, but could have been better. Bhaskar`s dialogues are well written. Editor Basavaraj Urs has done a good job in keeping the tempo of the film.
Over all God Father is a pleasant watch and certainly one of the best movies which were released recently. Upendra rocks.
Rating: Three and a half stars.
