Now, this is not a story stretching from age 40 to 84. This is not even Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron. This is the evolution of Naseeruddin Shah, who is maturing like old wine. If Ishqiya and The Dirty Picture were an indication of things to come, Chaalis Chauraasi carries it forward.

Naseer dances like there is no tomorrow. We can expect more stuff like this in future since Naseer has let his hair down and is in a no-holds barred act. And I too, let my hair down and enjoyed the movie. And that meant overlooking the story and its execution. Here, everything lies with the actors and their acting. You go along with them and forget the rest. For you are riding Chaalis Chauraasi and it is only one night where you can do whatever you wish to.

Naseer (61) is ably supported by Atul Kulkarni (46), Kay Kay Menon (44) and Ravi Kissen (40) in this heist tale. And there is Rajesh Sharma in a cop act, where he requires the services of these four ?cops?. The movie may be a tribute to Naseer. Based on the titles of his earlier movies, Naseer is called Sir (1993) and Kay Kay is called Albert Pinto (Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai, 1980). Atul is called Bobby (1973) and Ravi is Shakti (1982). After Ooh La La, Naseer completes a dancing hat-trick in a remixed Hawa Hawa and Setting Zala. He is our very own Michael Jackson & Elvis Presley rolled into one.

Naseer is the mastermind behind the heist idea. He is an ex-professor and wants to retire rich. He discusses the heist with a car thief (Kay Kay), a pimp (Atul) and a drug peddler (Ravi). You?d say, a nice set to execute a heist. They definitely are.

There is a forlorn place where moolah (Rs 20 crore) is waiting to be taken. And it needs only guts to counter the goon. And what better guise than of a cop, who no one?d question. They begin this clandestine operation in a cop car with the number 4084, and therefore the title Chaalis Chauraasi. Now, the fun ride begins!

They are intercepted by a real cop (Rajesh Sharma) on their way. And subsequently they are dragged off as backup for an encounter of with dreaded gangster Bisleri (Zakir Hussain). Their night(mare) rightly begins. Will they end up as mince meat or will they mint millions?

The situations are unrealistic and the comedy outrageous. What can be expected of middle-aged/old men? They have nothing to lose except their lives and everything to gain. So gain they do ? dancing to mindless numbers, shooting without a pause, and carrying forward a movie that is actually sans story. But, who cares. You are moving along with these real actors. You want to be a part of this heist yourself. That is the beauty of these actors. They make you want to trade places. This old boy gang is setting new standards for male-bonding.

The 80s Pakistani singer Hassan Jahangir, returns with a remix of his iconic song Hawa Hawa. Director Hriday Shetty has executed a coup of sorts. He may have floundered on the story but the rest is firmly in its place. And then there is Shweta Bhardwaj, who sets the dance floor on fire with her lavni hit Setting Zala.

Do you have fun, only when you are young? Is fun age-restricted? After watching this movie, you?ll end up saying NO!

This is an all-male film with only three women - producer Anuya Mhaiskar, dancers Shweta Bhardwaj and Reetu Jain. But you don?t miss the women.

This movie could have been a cult hit had it been marketed and publicised well. Word of mouth will definitely help spread its wings. But it will be the viewers? loss if they do not catch this film. After all, you do not get so much fun for so little in this age of mindless movies. It is a jewel in the crown of small films. This could well be your New Year treat. This heist tale is maza, not saza like Players. So, enjoy it without expectations.
