Most experts and also moviegoers emphasize on the importance of a good script and believe that it is the basis of a well-made film. But I personally believe that it?s the execution that matters the most. After all, a film can rest on a wafer-thin plot but manage to entertain if it?s directed well. Conversely, a film can boast of an excellent storyline but execute it badly, and your film will fall like a pack of cards. Jodi Breakers is the case in point !

The film has so many factors in its favour ? ensemble star cast, hit music, fresh look and not to forget, a novel plot. But sadly, director Ashwini Chaudhary ?s direction just spoils it all!

Sid (R Madhavan) is a divorcee and a break-up expert . After working solo for sometime, he teams up with Sonali (Bipasha Basu) and they both become 'jodi breakers'. They successfully help dissolve lots of broken marriages. One fine day, they are assigned by Ira (Mrinalini Sharma) to spy on her husband Marc (Milind Soman) in Greece and photograph him with his mistress Maggie (Dipannita Sharma Atwal). In this case, the 'jodi breakers' decide to tweak their rules and work towards a different path. However, it changes their life for the worse.

Jodi Breakers has a breezy and an interesting first half. The comic moments compliment the proceedings well, especially the Baba Kamdev episode. The Greece portions too, are well filmed. The twist at the intermission comes as a bolt from the blue. But sadly, it was so badly presented that viewers were left confused.

The film goes further down in the second half. As mentioned above, the film rests on a wonderful plot but direction doesn?t do justice. Also, the sequences in Goa where Sid & Sonali are trying to rectify their wrongs wasn't very interesting and could have been better. Thankfully, the film has a rather funny climax and that saves the film from turning into an absolute disaster!

Performance wise both the lead actors give their best. R Madhavan rises above the script and comes up with an excellent performance. It?s probably the first time that he gets to play such a role and he performs it with ?lan. Bipasha Basu looks super sizzling and gives a riveting performance. Omi Vaidya (Nano) was funny only in the Baba Kamdev sequence. It?s disappointing to see a talented actor like him coming up with roles having the ?Chatur Ramalingam? touch . High time for Omi to change gears and surprise the audiences! Dipannita Sharma looks ravishing! She is an actress who deserves more! Milind Soman was alright and so was Mrinalini Sharma . Helen (Marc?s mother) was a treat to watch as always. Mazhar Syed (Sid?s friend Sahil), Tarana Raj (cardiologist Isha) and Paritosh Sand (doctor) lend able support.

Salim-Sulaiman ?s music is as always a pleasure to the ears. All the songs in the film rock! The background score enhances impact in few scenes.

Arun Verma ?s cinematography was fine, especially the long shots. Sanyukta Chawla ?s story definitely had meat and had all the trappings of a fine entertainer, though it does suffer from the Band Baaja Baaraat hangover. But Aakash Kaushik ?s screenplay had several loose ends and the same applied to Ashwini Chaudhary ?s direction too. Many things didn?t make sense. For instance, Sonali quickly made up her mind to join Sid. No light was thrown as to what work she was doing before becoming a 'jodi breaker'. Moreover, she fell in love with Sid too soon! Also, the Marc-Maggie track in a way seemed half-baked. t

Few good scenes in the film :
The picturisation of the songs Kunwara and Bipasha
Baba Kamdev episode
Nano in hospital
Sid-Sonali enter Marc?s house secretly
Sid-Sonali?s romantic moments in Greece
Sid enters operation theatre

On the whole, Jodi Breakers is a disappointing fare. The film had the advantage of fine music, performance, locales and storyline, but direction and few loose ends ruin it all! Thumbs down!
