Manirathnam explained the reason behind the title Villain. "Some other producers had already registered the title `Raavan` for their film. I later approached Veturi gaaru who suggested the title 'Villain'." he said.
He refused to comment on the genre of the film and also denied the comparison with Ramayana. "You will have to see the movie to know the answer. The film questions only who is right and who is not. What is wrong and what is right," Manirathnam added. He also heaped praises on Vikram and Aishwarya Rai.
"He brings the best in me. I love to work under his direction," Aishwarya said. She also added that she is playing the role of a dancer called Raagini who is highly opinionated. "It is a fascinating character with a mixture of all emotions. My character becomes a means to understand the Villain."
Vikram said: "My dream has now been fulfilled. It has been my dream to work with Mani Ratnam."
He laughed when asked which part of role did he enjoy - playing husband to Aishwrya or villain to her. "Aishwarya is a beautiful woman and she is a pleasure to work with," he said.
