Jallikattu review: We recommend that you do not miss this one!

Lijo Jose Pellissery

Star Cast

Antony Varghese, Chemban Vinod Jose, Sabumon

There are certain movies that just blow you away with it’s immaculate packaging. Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Jallikattu is one such experience. It is searingly honest, that its characters stay with you long after the lights come back on.

The story, which in fact is mainly about some characters and a particular incident, happens in a high range town. The incident is happening when a buffalo escapes as it is about to be butchered. The butcher, Kalan Varkey (Chemban Vinod Jose) and his gang, which includes a helper, Antony (Antony Varghese) leads the villagers as they all are trying to get the buffalo under control.

The whole village panic as the buffalo destroys some crops on its way. There are various suggestions that the villagers come up with, including calling a hunter named Kuttachan (Sabumon Abdusamad), who has an issue with Antony. Kuttachan joins the action much to the dismay of Antony.

As the villagers chase the animal, their real nature get revealed at times and that is exactly where the story is focused. The difference between man and beast disappears many a time. All these are brilliantly captured by the director and you can barely take your eyes off the screen as the chase continues.

The movie is based on a story by S Hareesh titled Maoist. Lijo, who has made the viewers thrilled with such well appreciated movies like Amen, Angamaly Diaries and Ee Ma Yau, presents the movie in a way that makes the viewer sit and watch it all with awe.

The sound by Renganath Ravee, the music by Prashanth Pillai and the visuals by Gireesh Gangadharan are top notch and needs to be applauded.

The performances have been moulded to suit the imagination of the director and the actors have done their roles in a dedicated manner. Antony Varghese, Chemban Vinod Jose, Sabumon Abdusamad and Santhy Balachandran are all superb.

Jallikattu is one of those movies which will leave the viewers spellbound. Lijo once again proves his eminence as a master filmmaker with this one. Don’t miss this terrific movie!
