An old-fashioned melodrama but still could be a decent watch for the lovers of conventional family sagas.

Jomonte Suvisheshangal review-Predictable and melodramatic

Sathyan Anthikad

Star Cast

Dulquer,Mukesh, Aishwarya Rajesh, Anupama

Yes, there’s no polite way to say this: Jomonte Suvisheshangal is a lazily made film with a script that is neither original nor engaging.

Director Sathyan Anthikkad prefers to travel more or less on the same track, when it comes to his choice of scripts and presentation. His stories are aimed at the family audiences, who perhaps are much more smarter than him as they expect a slightly better version of some of those TV serials, with goodness in plenty. But it is hard to believe that the very talented Dulquer who chooses his films with utmost care signed for this film after hearing the script.

Vincent (Mukesh) is a wealthy Thrissur based businessman. Except for his third son, Jomon (Dulquer Salmaan), his other three children are successful and well settled. Jomon is a happy go lucky youth, who loves to fool around without any responsibilities.

Vincent is genuinely fond of Jomon and tries to help him reach some heights in life like his siblings. But things take an abrupt turn as Vincent faces some sudden setbacks.

With a storyline that is surprisingly similar to last year’s Jacobinte Swargarajyam and made as a potpourri of some of the director’s own movies from the recent past, this one is tad too long at 2 hours 37 minutes. Of course, there are few good moments in between and it is Dulquer’s ample charm which keeps you engaged mostly.

With a script that is predictable and melodramatic, Sathyan Anthikkad tries hard to package the film as a passable entertainer for the not so discerning viewer. The visuals are delicious and the music is good.

Though he looks pretty young for the role, Mukesh is convincing as a shrewd businessman and also a doting dad. Both the heroines, Anupama Parameswaran and Aiswarya Rajesh, have limited roles to play. Watch out for good performances from Sivaji Guruvayoor, Indu Thampy and Muthumani, who appear in pretty small roles but still manages to grab our attention.

Dulquer Salmaan with his affable charm is convincing as Jomon. He looks dishy and comes up with a dedicated performance.

Jomonte Suvisheshangal is an old-fashioned melodrama but still could be a decent watch for the lovers of conventional family sagas.
