Kaavalthurai Ungal Nanban- Realistic & hard-hitting

Star Cast

The title Kaavalthurai Ungal Nanban might sound as if the film is yet another fictional plot to glorify the cops. But the film's director RDM has registered the vicious side of the police force with his maiden venture, which is hard hitting.

Prabhu (Suresh Ravi) is a food delivery partner, and he  does the odd jobs to earn some extra money to get his dream job abroad. Prabhu's new married wife Indu (Raveena Ravi) also works to financially help her husband and the family.

Life goes well for them until they meet the menacing cop Kannabiran (Mime Gopi) just when the couple is on their way to file a complaint after Indu was robbed and humiliated by unknown thieves. In a normal Tamil cop action entertainer, Kannabiran would be kind of enough to help the couple and nab the criminal who robbed Indu. But Kannabiran is similar to the merciless officers who killed the father and son in Sathakankulam.

The rest of the film often reminds us of the chilling Sathankulam custodial deaths although RDM had made Kavalthurai Ungal Nanban long back. Yes, the film is basically about a young man, who approaches police officers to nab the criminals but he gets crushed and tortured by the men in Khaki.

After watching Kavalthurai Ungal Nanban, you would think twice before talking to a police officer and stepping into a police station such is the impact created by Mime Gopi. Suresh Ravi looks earnest and does a neat job, the film must have been physically demanding for him and he has given his best. Popular dubbing artist Raveena Ravi fits the bill.

Super Good Subramani 's role( senior constable) tells us that there are officers who want to help the public but they just can't do it because of the corrupt system and superiors

Even, if you are not aware of the Sathankulam incident, Kavalthurai Ungal Nanban will be an eye-opener for cops who think they can misuse the power and express their arrogance on the general public mainly because of the realistic depiction of director RDM.

While watching the climax, we all think that it's going to be the rise of the hero against the villainy cop but RDM hits us back with the harsh reality and that's where he shines as a filmmaker.

Verdict: Excellent
