Shivarajkumar, Aindrita Ray, Radhika Pandit
It is difficult to place Kaddipudi to a particular genre of hit film-maker Duniya Soori. For, the director has come with a subject that has been often shown on the big screen. A rowdy, who tries to emerge out of his profession to lead a normal life, faces tough challenges, forms the premise of the movie. There have been several movies in the past with similar storyline. However, what sets this film apart, is the narration of the topic on the big screen by Soori.
As usual, Soori has given the lead character Anand (Shivarajkumar) a peculiar nickname ? Kaddipudi (tobacco powder) because his family traded in the same in the past. Somehow, it is difficult to digest such a name for Shivarajkumar. By choice, Kaddipudi works for a politician and is caught between his master and his rival. Though he tries his best to emerge out of the mess, the severe the situation becomes for Kaddipudi.
In the process, the protagonist meets his lady love (Radhika Pandit), a struggling junior film artiste. However, there is not much to write about the romance between the protagonist and his girlfriend. Radhika Pandit in a toned down deglamourized role is perfect for the role. For Shivarajkumar, performing such roles is never a challenge. Having acted in over 100 movies, Shivarajkumar comes out on the top as the protagonist. He has essayed similar roles early in his career. Not once does he struggle to justify the Kaddipudi character.
The trump card of the movie is Aindrita Ray, who sizzles for a brief time, in a special song. The actress, as a call girl, has performed Kathak. The song scores very high on technical brilliance for the way it has been shot in dark light. Another foot-tapping song provides relief to the storyline. Rangayana Raghu and Sharath Lohitashwa, as usual, excel in their respective roles. Something different was expected out of Duniya Soori, but the director has relied on the same old formula. It is to be seen if audiences accept Kaddipudi and make it a blockbuster.
