Kala review- A violent, gripping thriller

Rohith V S

Star Cast

Tovino Thomas, Moor, Divya Pillai, Lal

Kala, directed by Rohith V S, is an atmospheric, intense revenge thriller that would leave you at the edge of your seats for most of its running time.

The movie has been certified ‘A’ by the Censor board and it was announced by the makers as a “blood game”. Well, you have to take it seriously as this one is raw, gory, and violent.

Once you are ready for it, get ready to experience a well-crafted drama, with lots of action. From the beginning, the movie gives enough hints to the viewer that there are some mysteries hidden that will be unveiled later.

Shaji (Tovino Thomas) is going through a disturbing phase in his life and there are hints about him losing some big money. His equation with his father, played by Lal, is not really good.

Shaji’s only support is his wife Vidya (Divya Pillai) and their son. He has a pet dog, which is a ‘foreign breed’, as he proudly says at one point of time.

He is selfish and rude, as is revealed as we get more details about an incident from the past which takes the story ahead. There is also the difference in the way one approaches life and the things around us.

In a role that requires tremendous effort and strain, Tovino Thomas performs brilliantly. Watch out for a surprise performance from Moor, who plays a Tamil worker. Lal and Divya Pillai have done their parts impressively.

Kala is an unconventional movie that delves into the minds of the lead characters. Even though moments of silence, disturbing stunts, and egoistic looks, it succeeds in conveying some strong statements, which makes this an interesting watch.

Verdict: A violent, gripping thriller
