Tamil Nadu’s most versatile performer, Kamal Haasan, is on to his new movie. And it’s called Mumbai Express. To be financed by Mumbai’s Bharat Shah, the thriller finds Kamal Haasan playing a cop.

And after a lot of speculation, it would finally be Manisha Koirala who would be playing the female lead. Says Kamal Haasan, “We’ve finally zeroed in on Manisha.”

That brings to an end the three-month long ordeal when various leading ladies from Bollywood, including Tabu and Bipasha Basu, were sounded out, only to reach a dead end.

Press reports claimed that Kajol had earlier been signed for the movie, but Kamal says such reports were not true. Says Kamal, “We did approach her, and she seemed responsive. But the dates couldn’t suit her duties as a mother.”

“When we approached Manisha she immediately said yes. She was finalised on the 16th of November. She flew down to Chennai on the 17th for a photo-shoot, and that was it.” says Kamal Haasan with an appreciative smile.

“Of course I said yes to him blindly and immediately. Kamalji is like my God! We start shooting in mid-December. I can hardly wait” says an overjoyed Manisha.

The two had earlier starred in the Hindi-Tamil bilingual Alavandan (Abhay in Hindi) and got along fine. #rmpPlayer {height: 375px !important;} .rmp-playlist-player-wrapper {width: 350px !important; height:375px !important;} .rmp-playlist-item-title{font-size:11px !important;} .rmp-playlist-header{font-size:15px !important;} @media (min-width: 1200px){ .rmp-playlist-container {height: 380px !important;} .rmp-playlist-side-menu{width: 300px !important; height:375px !important;} .rmp-playlist-item-text-area{width: 165px !important; text-align: left;} .rmp-playlist-item-number {font-size:12px !important;} }
