Ace director Gautham Vasudev Menon is launching a new hero Veera, a former assistant, with his thriller Nadunisi Naaygal. Veera in an exclusive interview opens up on his mentor, NN and future plans.

You have been associated with Gautham Menon for last few years. How did this role in Nadunisi Naaygal happen?
Five years back when I approached Gautham sir for an opportunity to act in his film, he advised me to get behind the camera before wanting to step in front of it. Experience behind the camera, he said was most important when one is ultimately looking to be an actor. I took that advice and when Gautham sir had the right script for a new comer, I am glad and thankful that he chose to cast me in it. It has been an amazing experience working with Gautham sir behind and in front of the camera.

As the story is about a psycho killer, did you have any reference to follow?
My primary reference was Gautham sir himself. He acted out every single scene and character in this screenplay that he wrote. Aside from this I revisited a series of films including Hitchcock's Psycho, Silence of the Lambs, American Psycho, Sigappu Rojakkal and Moodupani

Among other big heroes who has done such roles in the past, who do you think is the best?
I think Kamal sir's performance as Dileep in Sigappu Rojakkal is by far the best I've ever seen.

How was it working with Gautham, as he is well known to you?
Working with Gautham sir is truly an experience beyond words. Working with him has been a significant influence on me and I just hope this reflects on screen.

About Sameera, your co-star?
Sameera is a beautiful, warm, fun and friendly person. She is great to have as a co-star and she has been very helpful to me.

You are quite a girl's guy. In real life, women seem to warm up to you pretty easily. Please comment
(Smiles) Women have greatly influenced my life ever since I was a child. All my life, for support, comfort and advice, I only approach and depend on the women who are close to me. People who know me know that about me and I'd like to keep it that way.

What are your priorities now? Will you continue as an actor?
I am definitely going to continue as an actor. It was with that ambition that I stepped into this industry. People like Gautham sir have been kind enough to help me achieve my goal and I am waiting to explore this opportunity now with more directors.
