Karan, Haripriya, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Raj Kapoor, Samapthraj
The tagline of debutant director Kavin Bala?s Kanagavel Kakka capsules the storyline of the film- ?when the judgment is wrong?. Karan plays a vigilante, who wants to take revenge against the brutal killing of his mother and sister by the villain.
The film follows the pattern of all vigilante movies in Tamil like Gentleman, Indian, Ramanna, where the hero has strong personal hatred against the system which made him a vigilante. The director focuses on our judicial system where due to lack of circumstantial evidences, the bad guys go scot free.
Velu (Karan), is a Dawali, at the High Court in Chennai and is able to experience at close quarters how the rich and influential get away scot free due to lack of conclusive evidence. The city seems to be run by criminal politician and minister Ayyanarappan ( Kota Sreenivasa Rao) and his son a cunning lawyer Thirunavakarassu (Sampath) He is shocked when an innocent girl who gets molested by a builder commits suicide after the court lets him go; an old couple duped by a sand mafia guy is let off.
Velu goes on a vigilante murder spree and kills those who committed heinous crimes but was let off by the court. Meanwhile a cop ACP Karunakaran(Aditya Menon) putting evidence left behind by Velu is closing in on him. He is forced by Sandhya (Haripriya), a girl who is madly in love with him to reveal his past, which holds the reason for his revenge run.
The first half of the film is racy but starts dragging big time in the second half. Five songs wrongly placed act as speed breakers. Karan as Velu has done a neat job, while Haripriya as the rich girl madly in love with the hero is a waste and is there only for the song on Pattaya beach. It is Kota Sreenivasa Rao as the leering villain who carries the show. The music of Vijay Antony is rubbish.
On the whole there is nothing new in story or treatment, at the same time it is timepass entertainer.
Time pass comedy entertainer
Average comedy entertainer
Decent rural family entertainer
Soubin Shahir and Mamta Mohandas shine in this conventional film
