Director Deepu Karunakaran narrates the story of a volleyball coach, who makes a talented team out of a few inmates from a jail, in Karinkunnam 6’s.
Vandana (Manju Warrier) and Aby (Anoop Menon) have dedicated their lives for the sport, Volleyball. They are trying hard to promote their team called ‘Karinkunnam 6’s’ in a Premier League where several teams line up.
Amidst terrible rivalry, match fixing and corruption, the couple loses to present their team at the right time. Aby gets fatally beaten up in between and Vandana is forced to handpick a few sportsmen from the street.
But when they too betray, she finds some talents from a jail. She trains them and even after facing troubles, she successfully moulds a team. There are problems that she faces in between but it is their devotion for the sport that helps them to survive the challenges.
In all fairness, there is a decent plot here, but the problem is the way it has been presented. With a rather ordinary script and not so competent packaging, this one is far from exciting.
The scenes fail to influence you and the characters lack any depth.
Manju Warrier looks fit to be a sports coach, but her dialogue delivery sounds labored and artificial. Anoop Menon repeats his usual style and has a limited role to play. And their chemistry, is zilch.
The teammates (Babu Antony, Sudheer Karamana, Baiju, Sudev Nair, Gregory Jacob and Santhosh Keezhaattoor) have all performed earnestly, but their characters are generally half baked.
Karinkunnam 6’s has been modelled as a sports film but it is an amateurish attempt at best. Okay, let’s say, maybe it is as exciting as going for a Scotland versus Afghanistan Test cricket match. If you want to give it a try, go ahead then.
Karinkunnam 6’s Review Verdict: Half Baked
