A decent watch this festival season

Vijay Sethupathi, Tanya, Pasupathi, Bobby Simh
Vijay Sethupathi 's Karuppan is a formulaic rural entertainer which is watchable for the actor's unique screen presence. Despite a predictable routine story and presentation Karuppan entertains due to its mass elements and racy narration.
As per the local people's point of view, Karuppan (Vijay Sethupathi) is a drunkard, rogue but has great love and affection to his mute mom (Renuka). Karuppan is also a popular bull tamer in his locality. During a Jallikattu, a local village head Maayi (Pasupathi ) promises whoever controls his bull can marry his sister Anbu (Tanya). But Maayi's brother-in-law (Bobby Simha) has an eye on Anbu and becomes a Saguni to ruin her dreams to lead a life with Karuppan.
Spyder (tollywood) review: The film has some riveting moments | Spyder (kollywood) review: Mahesh Babu reminds us of Vijay in many scenes
Karuppan's biggest strength is the chemistry between Vijay Sethupathi and Tanya which has worked big time, there is an innocent magic in their characterizations, which makes us to root for them. Director Paneerselvam exactly knows what will work in a rural action entertainer. The director rightly packaged the film with local flavors and evergreen family drama.
Ramaleela review: A gripping thriller worth a watch | American Made review: Visually rustic and mildly thrilling
Vijay Sethupathi steals the show with his effervescent energy level, he carries the film on his broad shoulders. But one thing Vijay Sethupathi should seriously consider to lose weight and look fit. Tanya looks realistic, bubbly and perfectly justifies her role. Pasupathi and Bobby Simha too shine in their respective characters. After a long time, Singam Puli shines in the comical uncle of Vijay Sethupathi.
Imman's songs are not up to the level but the composer scores with the rerecording. Sakthivel's camera authentically captured the village locales and VT Vijayan's editing is flawless.
Mahanubhavudu review: Sharwanand steals the show in the title role | Judwaa 2 review: Varun shines in an unimaginative rehash
To conclude, Karuppan is a formulaic rural entertainer and it's a decent watch this festival season.
