When Tamil filmmakers announced collaborative ventures by joining together for anthologies, it sounded interesting but slowly the core idea starts fizzling out mainly because of the unexciting short stories. Kutty Story marks the collaboration of Gautham Menon, Vijay, Venkat Prabhu, and Nalan Kumarasamy.

Among the four episodes of love, Nalan's Aadalum Paadalum stands out, thanks to the director's honest writing. But in the episode, Vijay Sethupathi is a wrong casting choice. There is no doubt that Sethupathi is a great actor but in a Tamil film, why do you even force him to mouth English lines? Especially, when he can't get the diction right? Aditi Balan is fantastic in Aadalum Paadalum. The core theme on how men want their wives to be pure although they give lame excuses in the name of a mid-life crisis for their sexual desires out of marriage. There can be different views on the ending of the film but that's okay, Nalan stayed true to what he believes in!

Gautham Menon's Edhirpaara Mutham is an extension of his own Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaya and Needhane En Ponvasantham, as he narrates his college story and invisible line that exists between his best friend, who is a girl Mrinalini (A superb performance by Amala Paul). Yes, Gautham convinces us with his good writing, he is a master in depicting the relationship between a man and woman but for how many years, can we watch the same story again and again? Vinoth Kishan as Gautham Menon's younger version is an excellent choice and the actor too has done his part well.

Director Vijay's Avanum Naanum seems to be an extended version of his Karu, he tweaked the core story a bit and gave us an alternative yet predictable ending. Preeti (Megha Akash) and Vikram (Amritash) are in love. In a shocking development, Preeti becomes pregnant and Vikram's phone is unreachable. While Shruti (Ayra), Preeti's friend, suggests her to abort the child, the rest of the film is all about the decision that she takes in the end.

Venkat Prabhu's Logam set in the gaming world is an interesting idea. A young gamer (Varun) falls in love with a girl in a multiplayer game. Can he meet the girl in real life? Again, the idea is interesting but we wish, the writing and performance could've been better.

Overall, Kutty Story's best episode belongs to Nalan Kumarasamy but the rest of the stories fail to excite us much.
