Kyo Kii... Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta
Govinda, Sushmita Sen, Rambha, Anupam Kher
After Jodi No. 1, David Dhawan in his latest film Kyo Kii... Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta (KKMJNB) does a take off on Jim Carrey flicks like Liar Liar (max) and Me, Myself And Irene (min). Helping out is his favourite hero, rather better half, Govinda the only one to save a DD flick from falling flat on it`s face.
Our funny man plays a funny liar, sorry...LAWYER called Raj Malhotra (Govinda) who has come to the city to make it BIG. The small town guy is quite a fast number. Poker faced, he lies left, right and centre. Sparing no one. His friend Mohan (Satish Kaushik) is just the opposite of him -a loser and too emotional. But he puts up with his friend`s `ambitious` behaviour, shares with him his room and his open-air office outside the High Court. Once there, Raj who`s in search of that big time opportunity to become big sees it in Tejpal (Anupam Kher) who`s a renowned lawyer. Tejpal`s associate is his ghar jamai, Adharsh (Sharad Kapoor). Raj decides to follow in Adharsh footsteps, and woos Tejpal`s younger daughter, Sonal (Sushmita Sen). She falls hook, line and sinker for the bait (like everyone does in the film), and they get married. But just as Raj starts envisioning a `rich and bright future` as a ghar-jamai, Sonal decides that she prefers staying in her husband`s house, like any self-respecting wife who wants her husband to make it on his own steam. Raj, much against his wishes sees his dreams of bungalows, cars and riches going down the drain. But when Adharsh taunts him about having lost the game, Raj vows to make it big, in fact bigger than even his pa-in-law.
He does. His jackpot that comes in the shape of Kalra (Ashish Vidhyarthi), an underworld don whose brother (Shahbaaz Khan) is in big trouble with the law for murder. Raj takes up the case, which no other lawyer would even touch with a barge pole. Raj lies, and gets the don`s brother acquitted. Success and big money flow in. He now has a family, his wife and a son, houses, cars and a mistress, Tara (Rambha). The more he lies, the more successful he is, till Kalra`s brother gets into trouble with the law once again. This leads from one thing to another, and Sonal starts seeing a new side to her hubby. She sees a compulsive liar in him, as well as a dishonest man in front of her. She wants a divorce. Their son on seeing his parents on the verge of separation, wishes upon a shooting star that his father speak nothing but truth and get back together with his ma. The wish works instantly. He makes sure that he exposes the true criminal at the court, and that is Kalra and his younger brother. This one act gets him his wife and son back, and he is a happy man forever.
KKMJNB is directed, edited and written by David Dhawan whcih is nothing new. And once again he comes up with a TP fare which again is nothing new. Except it does pale in front of his last film, Jodi No. 1. But the story moves at a neat pace. The highlight of the film is the portion where Govinda starts speaking the `truth.` It`s so hilarious. Performances by Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik give apt support to Govinda`s antics. As for Sushmita, though she towers over Govinda, she performs in perfect tandem and sync with him, in scenes or dances. Finally, it`s no one but Govinda who rules the roost. Like always. Though he does look a little bit tired and jaded here, it does not reflect in his performance, which is A1.
