Lava Kusha review- Go with least expectations!

Gireesh Mano

Star Cast

Aju Varghese, Neeraj Madhav, Biju Menon

Director Gireesh Mano’s Lava Kusha is about two happy go lucky youngsters, whose lives take an unprecedented turn during a crucial train journey.

The two lead men, played by Neeraj Madhav and Aju Varghese, are presented as Hollywood style buddy cops in the opening scene but have no qualms in announcing that they are no policemen but two struggling youngsters who meet just by chance in Chennai.

They become friends by sharing a bottle and after some silly escapades, they decide to go back to their native place in Kerala. But the train journey turns crucial and in the process, the other two important characters, played by Biju Menon and Deepti Sathi, are introduced.

Victoria Abdul review: Intriguing and odd

Now begins the twists in the tale and there are way too many from then on. The story at times become a crime thriller but the viewers are promptly reminded that this one is not to be taken seriously by adding some comical sequences in between.

Neeraj and Aju become undercover policemen, conducts investigations and land in trouble. But with incompetent writing, this one never attains the brilliance that a ‘Shikkaari Shambhu’ or the ‘Dasan and Vijayan act from Nadodikkaattu’ have. Instead, here laughs are mostly from some of the dialogues and the lead duo’s funny mannerisms.

Among the two actors playing the lead, it is Aju Varghese who scores with his comic timing. He performs sincerely, while Neeraj is fine. Biju Menon has to deal with a half-baked role but even then, he impresses with his terrific screen presence and dialogue delivery. Deepti Sati has nothing much to do.

At just over 150 minutes, Lava Kusha seems to go on and on endlessly. In all fairness, there are some enjoyable moments in between and it would be a fine one-time watch, if you go without much expectations.
