Legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam(74) breathed his last today at MGM Healthcare in Chennai.
The veteran was initially admitted for COVID 19 on August 5th and eventually tested negative for the virus on September 5. However, he was continued to be under ventilator support and ECMO until today. Last night, his health condition deteriorated and doctors said that he was extremely critical.
Today, SP Charan, son of SP Balasubrahmanyam confirmed that his dad passed away at 1.04 pm, he thanked the media, fans, and everyone for their prayers.
Balasubrahmanyam recorded more than 40,000 songs in 16 Indian languages including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.
Balasubrahmanyam won six National awards for his exemplary singing and also the proud recipient of the two civilian honors, Padmashri and Padma Bhushan.
Besides playback singing, SP Balasubrahmanyam also proved his acting capabilities in films like Kaadhalan, Keladi Kanmani, Thiruda Thiruda, Ullasam, Ratchagan, and Priyamanavale.
He also dubbed for Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth's films in Telugu. Though Balasubrahmanyam was not a trained classical singer, his versatility is well known and often hailed by legendary music composers like MS Viswanathan, Ilaiyaraaja, and AR Rahman.
Balsubrahmanyam survived with his wife Savithri, son Charan, and daughter Pallavi. Several actors, filmmakers, singers, and composers are expressing their heartfelt condolences to Charan and the family members of Balasubrahmanyam.
