In a recent webinar, maverick filmmaker Mani Ratnam has opened about the difficulties in resuming the shoot of his magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan. "I'm directing a film which is set in the 10th century, so obviously there would be war scenes featuring huge crowd.

In this situation, don't even know when we will resume shoot but even then, shooting with a huge crowd during the pandemic will be difficult. But I will somehow finish the task. Luckily, technology has improved tremendously", said Ratnam.

As the theatrical business has become uncertain, Ratnam wants big stars and technicians should understand the situation and help the industry by reducing the remuneration.

Jointly produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca, the film has an ensemble of actors including Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, and  Aishwarya Lekshmi.

AR Rahman is composing the music for the film and Ravi Varman cranks the camera.
