Monsoon Mangoes

Abi Varghese

Star Cast

Fahadh Faasil, Vijay Raaz

In director Abi Varghese’s Monsoon Mangoes, Fahadh Faasil is an American Malayali D P Pallickal, who attempts to make a film.

It is obvious that D P Pallickal’s idea of movies have been created by some of those classics, which he has seen over the years. He makes a silly film, combining a few shots with a failed Bollywood actor Prem Kumar (Vijay Raaz), who has also been branded “good for nothing” by his family, just like his new director.

Actually we don’t know if it is comical or serious, when D P directs Prem Kumar, with scenes that are perhaps meant to mimic Ingmar Bergman’s The Seventh Seal.

D P captures some shots and shows it to a film distributor, who tells him how bad are his skills and instead of wasting time trying to make films, he should do something else.

Curiously, as we sit and watch this nonsense for two long hours, it’s the same feeling that comes to our mind, about those who made this one! And we never understand what the makers of this absurd saga were trying to say here.

Abi Varghese, who co-directed the extremely popular sitcom series Akkara Kazhchakal that brilliantly portrayed the peculiar Malayali life in the US, meanders along trying to make sense out of some hotch potch visuals. He adds a few motivational quotes and some Hindi lines, which are being repeated without any effect towards the end.

There is an attempt to create a fantasy world and that backdrop shows promise. But without a credible content, the narration goes haywire.

The actors seem to have no clues about what is happening as the film goes on and on without any real meaning and it is evident from the performances of its talented cast.

From Fahadh Faasil to Vijay Raaz and Vinay Forrt, the actors seem totally clueless about what is going on.

Monsoon Mangoes is unintentionally funny, as the reactions to the silly film being made by the hero is what comes to our mind while watching this bore. Sad to say, all these stale mangoes will give you, is a migraine!

Verdict: Migraine Guaranteed
