Movie Title

Devi Prasad

Star Cast

Sunil, Isha Chawla, Ali, Allari Ravi Babu, Ambati Srinivas

Buchchi Babu (Sunil) a fashion designer settled in USA comes to India to get married to a traditional Telugu girl.

His parents arrange an alliance with Anjali (Isha Chawla) in Rajamundry and he takes an instant liking to her. But the problem is that she is in love with someone else and wants Buchchi Babu to call the marriage off. He obliges to her request. Few days pass. He meets her again in Kerala at a friend`s wedding.

This time they begin to get to know each other better. But she still loves her boyfriend. Then how does he get his dream girl in the end? Rest of the story is all about this.

They say remakes are safe game. Yet, many remakes stumble and fail to recreate the same magic as the original movie did. Some directors fail to catch the rhythm of the original while some others totally miss what the movie is all about.

Mr.Pellikoduku, a remake of Bollywood super hit, Tanu Weds Manu, has both the problems. It is totally a lackluster effort.

Since it has Sunil, a comedian turned hero who is known for his dance moves, the story has been changed and is packaged to showcase his dancing skills (the second half of the movie runs on outdated romantic scenes or frequent songs).

Some witty jokes have worked in the first half, though. But post the interval, the illogical sequences, sleep-inducing music, awkward romantic track, and sluggish narration provide nothing but boredom. And the dance moves too are repetitive. There is a `belt` step in which Sunil unbuckles his belt and puts it back.. yes that is a dance step. Or he would mop the floor!

While the execution of the movie itself is an excruciating experience, Sunil`s makeup and his tired facial expressions kill the movie. Further, `stage`? like situations and outdated comedy sequences add salt to injury.

In the original movie, handsome Madhavan played this role. Sunil who is not known for his good looks has tried to appear in a class avatar but he fails. Earlier, he was endearing though not good looking, that is missing after he shed weight. His dressing sense is good, but sadly those dresses dominate him.

His makeup to appear as a `US returned fashion designer` with good clothes and hideous pink lipstick is awkward to say the least. He also takes off his shirt to flaunt his `six-pack`. Isha Chawla is a total miscast in the role that requires a heroine who can carry an entire film on her shoulder with her vivacious act.

Ambati Srinivas` act of tucking his tummy in whenever a girl appears is funny. Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam and Ahuthi Prasad provide some laughs.

Cinematography by Sameer Reddy is okay. Some dialogues are funny but not worth mentioning. S A Rajkumar`s music is a big letdown, not a single song is worth listening to. One wonders whether the film is really directed by Devi Prasad as his `comedy` is hardly visible in the film. Screenplay and direction are pretty bad.

Mr.Pellikoduku has neither good looks, nor appreciable qualities. He gets it totally wrong. A badly remade version of Tanu Weds Manu. Except for few funny lines and scenes in the first half, the film is a total disappointment.
