Today, Amazon Prime, the leading OTT platform in India has announced that all HD content will henceforth play in SD quality on mobile devices so that the service providers can help millions of users who are now staying at home due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
"While you continue to enjoy shows and movies on Amazon Prime Video, we wanted to let you know of a change we are making to do our part to ensure everyone across the country has continued access to internet services on their mobile phones. Due to current exceptional circumstances, we will be temporarily restricting streaming to only SD (Standard Definition) on cellular networks until April 14, as part of a larger digital media industry initiative to reduce strain on the network. In HD or SD, we remain committed to entertain you. Please stay safe", read a statement from Amazon Prime.
As most the users will stream HD content, OTT players have taken this decision.
