Star Cast

Asif Ali, Ahmad Sidhique, Fara Shibla

Director Dinjith Ayyathan’s O.P. 160/ 18 Kakshi: Amminippilla is about a silly guy who gets married in a haste and wants a divorce, soon after.

Amminippilla (Ahmad Sidhique) is back from the Gulf on leave and his family takes him to a wedding broker straight from the airport. Things happen so fast that he is convinced his bride Kanthi (Fara Shibla) has many problems including her weight which he cannot accept, only after their marriage. She loves him a lot, though he is an evidently boring guy who is cranky and egoistic.

Amminippilla approaches a struggling lawyer in Thalassery, Pradeepan Manjodi (Asif Ali) to file a divorce case. The rest of the story is about how Pradeepan, who is involved in a variety of activities other than his practice as a lawyer, handles the issue.

The story is set in Thalassery and the funny sequences in between keeps this one fairly engaging. The court room scenes have been done in an interesting manner.

But even then, the script lacks the smartness of movies like the brilliant 2015 Hindi movie Dum Laga Ke Haisha for instance, that handled similar themes so well.

It is Asif Ali’s dedicated performance that works in the film’s favour in a big way. He is funny and convincing. Asif, who is in an excellent form, has also used the Thalassery slang pretty well.

Fara Shibla, who had in fact put on weight to play the character of Kanthi, needs to be applauded for her superb performance. Ahmad Sidhique, Basil Joseph, Sreekanth Murali and Nirmal Palazhi are also good.

O.P. 160/ 18 Kakshi: Amminippilla is the kind of movie that is mainly targeted at the not so discerning viewers and is a fine watch.
