Movie Title

Praana

Director

V K Prakash

Star Cast

Nithya Menen

With V K Prakash as the director, P C Sreeram as the cinematographer and Resul Pookkutty in charge of the sound department, Praana has to be technically sound. The film, which is an experiment with the surround sync sound, excels in technical eminence.

Nithya Menen, the only actor in the film, is playing Tara Anuradha, a writer whose latest book ‘Music for Freedom’ has just come out. She is an activist speaking for absolute freedom, which has earned her many rivals.

But Tara is fearless and is not one to yield to any threats. When she hears a news about a haunted bungalow where no one dares to stay, Tara decides to go there. She asks her editor friend to make the arrangements for her stay at the bungalow. On reaching there she installs a few cameras to catch the movements inside the room, which she plans to make it into a film later.

Tara doesn’t find anything abnormal in the bungalow initially as she starts staying there all alone. But things take a shocking turn as the film provides some chilling moments to the viewer.

With the total focus on a single actor, V K Prakash has succeeded in making a film, with delicious visuals, brilliant music and amazing technical perfection.

Though the script lacks depth and the dialogues become a bit dramatic at times, the film is crisply packaged at around 110 minutes. The issues raised by the film are highly relevant and genuine but questions maybe raised about the climax. Of course, we won’t turn spoilsports by discussing more.

Nithya Menen enjoys the total attention on her character and performs in a dedicated manner. She conveys the emotions that her character goes through in an impressive way.

Praana is a riveting experience that has to be experienced and enjoyed at a good theatre. Go for this one!
