PUKAR could probably be Madhuri Dixit`s last film. This is thefilm for which she postponed announcing her wedding for almost two weeks.
In the Rajkumar Santoshi-directed Pukar, that has been in themaking for two years now, Madhuri is acting opposite her favourite co-starAnil Kapoor. Rank newcomer, model Namarata Shirodkar is the other star.
A spy drama, Pukar is set in the India of 1980s. There is theusual masala: exotic locales, dances, a story revolving aroundneighbour-sponsored terrorism, the fight between good and evil and the finaltriumph of good. It`s got music by today`s hot pair Jatin-Lalit.
The director of the film is slightly apprehensive about the reaction tohis dream film. But natural given that the audience and the industry aregenerally a wee bit cold towards a married heroine.
Madhuri and Anil have paired for several hits before, beginning withTezaab. After that, they have given a string of hits:Raam Lakhan, Kishen Jaikishen, Ghar Jamai,Parinda and Beta.
It`s ironical that Madhuri`s first hit film was Tezaab, and herlast film too is with Anil.
Sufiyum Sujatayum has a few good moments but gives the feeling that with so much potential, this one could have been a better watch
Bajpayee essays a near-silent role, for Bhonsle is a man of few words. The subject of Bhonsle has been attempted in Hindi cinema, but no one has dared directly mention ethnic identities
