Pulimurugan review: A winner all the way

Star Cast

Mohanlal, Kamalini Mukherjee

Director Vysakh is known for loud, colourful frames with all the grandeur. In Puli Murugan, the storyline truly requires such a canvas and above all, there is Mohanlal as the hero, to set the mercury levels rising. This one is a winner, all the way!

Murugan (Mohanlal) is the brave son of the forest, hailing from a locality called Puliyoor, where tigers create havoc to the lives of those residing there. Murugan has seen some horrible tragedies early in his life which has made him tough and courageous.

But deep inside his heart Murugan is a lamb, who is a loving husband to his wife Myna (Kamalinee Mukherjee) and a doting dad. For the rest of the world, he is the saviour that they look forward to, when in distress.

The story is how Murugan realizes that the humans outside the woods are more dangerous than the wild animals within.

With breathtaking visuals, top notch performances, superb action sequences and thrilling music, Vysakh has cooked a delicious treat. Though it is a bit too long at two hours and 41 minutes, this one keeps you engaged for sure.

An okay script at best, with enough dose of masala and double meaning dialogues, has been made into an entertaining film with its impressive making. The toil that has been put to make this film, by cinematographer Shaji and action director Peter Hein besides the director, needs an extra round of applause.

In a role that is strenuous and physically demanding, Mohanlal gets into the skin of the character in a way that only a versatile genius like him can. He is absolutely convincing while doing the stunts with the tiger or with those armed hunks and is equally at ease doing funny tricks to cajole his wife. The hero has put in sincere efforts and is an absolute delight to watch.

There are some fabulous performances, including Jagapati Babu, Lal, Suraj Venjarammoodu, Kishore and the cute looking boy who performs Murugan during his childhood days.

Puli Murugan wins with the hard work that has gone into its making. It’s the kind of masala that is superbly enjoyable and then there is Mohanlal in terrific form. Go for it.
