Raame Aandalum Raavane Aandalum review: An earnest political drama

Arisil Moorthy

Star Cast

Mithun Manickam, Ramya Pandian, Vani Bhojan

Debutant director Arisil Moorthy's Raame Aandalum Raavane Aandalum is a socially relevant political drama that showcases the harsh reality of villages and how corrupt politicians use innocent villagers for cheap publicity and vote bank politics.

Kunnimuthu (Mithun Manickam) and Veerayi (Ramya Pandian) are happy with their two bulls Karuppan and Vellaiyan, they treat them as their own kids. Life goes well for them until Kunnimuthu earns the wrath of local politicians who hit his bulls and in turn, our protagonist retaliates and unmasks their cheap tactics.

Now, both Vellaiyan and Karuppan go missing. A devastated Kunnimuthu and Veerayi search for their kids, they even file a police complaint. But only a news reporter(Vani Bhojan) helps them and in the process, the Poocheri village also sees good growth with the intervention of the High Court!

Mithun Manickam has exhibited a decent performance and he looks perfect for an innocent villager. Ramya Pandian and Vani Bhojan are adequate while the actors who imitates the current political leaders are the biggest highlight of the film.

Music by singer Krish is fantastic, his songs sound authentic for a rural film and the cinematographer has also done a good job by capturing the dry village.

The first half of the film progresses organically without any hiccups and we enjoy watching the love, pain, and joy of Kunnimuthu, Veerayi, their neighbor granny, and others. In the second half, the film struggles with too much of the staged media circus and occasionally holds our attention with a striking resemblance of real-life politicians. The climax looks cinematic but provides a happy ending to the earnest plot.

To conclude, Raame Aandalum Raavane Aandalum is an earnest political drama that has its moments.

Verdict: Earnest political drama
