After noted veteran actor Radha Ravi slut-shamed Nayanthara on stage at the audio launch of her film,spoke on why audiences go to theatres, Pollachi issue and lashing out at women in general, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(DMK) has temporarily suspended him from primary membership. Meanwhile, Nadigar Sangam’s General Secretary Vishal has sent a letter to Radha Ravi condemning his misogynistic speech.
DMK’s Chief MK Stalin tweeted: “பெண்ணுரிமை முன்னிறுத்தும் திமுகவில் அங்கம் வகிக்கும் நடிகர் ராதாரவி அவர்களின் திரைத்துறை சார்ந்த பெண் கலைஞர்கள் குறித்த கருத்து ஏற்க இயலாதது. கடும் கண்டனத்திற்குரியது. கழகத்தினர் யாவரும் கண்ணியம் குறையாத வகையில் கருத்துகளை தெரிவிக்க வேண்டும்.மீறுவோர் மீது நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படும்” (DMK is a party which encourages women empowerment. Being a party member, we at DMK strongly condemns Radha Ravi’s derogatory remarks against women artists in cinema. Party cadres should convey their thoughts with dignity. Strict action will taken against members who violate this basic criterion).
Radha Ravi’s sister Radhika also took to her Twitter page saying that her brother’s speech was in a bad taste. “Nayanthara is one of the few dedicated actors we hav today, have the pleasure knowing her and sharing professional space with her, she is above all this, did not watch full video , but met Ravi today and told him it was not in good taste at all”, tweeted Radhika.
Radha Ravi regrets his speech against Nayanthara!
Actor Radha Ravi has regretted his speech against Nayanthara at the trailer launch of Kolayuthir Kaalam. After his own party Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam temporarily suspended him, the actor spoke to the media. “I regret my speech against Nayanthara. My thoughts have been misunderstood by many. If my presence degrades DMK, I’m ready to voluntarily resign my basic membership”.
The actor passed a bad joke against Nayanthara by saying “In those days, only KR Vijaya played goddesses in Tamil films but Nayanthara plays Seetha and also plays ghost. These days, someone whom we respect and whom we ogle at can play goddesses”.
